Fear of the Dark.

So wonderful ..... but it also makes me sad .... in fact, the russian wolfhounds often are looking exactly like in this artwork ... sad, thoughtful .... there is a poem of Erich Maria Remarque in German, "The Borzoi". I tried to translate it, if you don't know it, and hope it is Ok if I post it here:

The Borzoi has something of a gentle secret, from a quiet joy.
He is not a dog like the others all,
who show a transparent loyalty,
no subaltern servant of man.
He's a being that's hard to unravel,
which is somehow surrounded by loneliness,
like everything noble
which can stay for hours on end
in a mysterious silence like the Indian fakirs.
He is not required by the rest of the dog's virtues,
he does not need watchful, not trained on the man, not docile, not funny, not being clever –
for all beauty is without purpose and rests in itself.
